The First Actual Class Related Post

The first post was an introduction to this blog. This post is for an actual assignment, and as such

will contain a few necessary things for the class. To begin with I have been asked to share my

favorite animal. That is most certainly corvus corax, otherwise known as the common raven. I

love that a creature so far removed from primates (it isn't even a mammal!) could develop such

a sophisticated brain, capable of solving sophisticated puzzles. They can even learn to speak like

a Parrot can, though their voice is lower. I am also to post a hobby: this may sound cliche for

someone who grew up in the eighties and nineties, but I love martial arts. My father got myself

and my brother into taekwondo when I was seven, and it has been a large impact on my life and

how I see the universe. I also love weird/mad science, I mean it's the title of the blog after all so

that's probably not surprising. On a related note, I am working toward a doctorate in molecular

biology, although I won't even get the bachelors until after next spring. I hope to work as a

researcher in genetic engineering and perhaps be a professor at times, depending on what is

available. And now for something completely different:

  1. Hi and welcome to Evolution!

I absolutely agree that corvids are extraordinary animals; their intelligence and ability to use tools is just plain cool.

Genetic engineering is wildly fascinating! How exciting that this is your chosen area of research. Is there a specific area of genetic engineers that you aim to pursue?

    1. Well, there are a couple of things within genetic engineering I would like to pursue in depth. I find nanomachines fascinating, I think CRISPR is a good indicator of things to come in that regard. I think that's the thing that will both help us overcome aging (and age related diseases) as well as the other thing that makes me interested in this. You might remember me from the genetics class in the spring (which I liked quite a bit), but if you forgot it is very understandable. I did tell you though about my genetic disorder (Alpha-one antitrypsin deficiency). I would like that to be cured, and the only way I see that happening is through genetic engineering . I was interested in genetic engineering long before I found out I had this disorder however.
